You never know how much energy you have until you are pushed towards your limit. The second day of training with the track team of my university was a full success and I left home with sore legs and full of confidence of doing more training and running with them.
The training started with an easy 2k run to warm up and get into the mood for more. At least I felt that way afterwards. I guess my greenhorn status gives me some extra motivation, but well, I better make use of it as long as it lasts.
Training unit 2 was a 6k run in total. For each 1k we’ve had about 3:50 or 3:40 min time, which pushed at least me towards some limit, especially after the first two or three runs. In between we’ve had a 3min break to catch breath and get ready for the next run. My times for each 1k were pretty good, at least I feel good about them: 3:49, 3:55, 3:47, 3:50, 3:44, and 3:48. It was supposed to be a 8k training unit, but the coach told me I to take two relaxed 1k runs to not over-demand my body for this type of training that I am not really used to.
Finishing the running training, the rest consisted merely of some upper body strength, like working on abdominals. I went to the gym to train my arms and upper body a bit more the way I am used to it and finished my training day with an easy 1k walk on the treadmill, followed by stretching to not feel sore tomorrow… I hope that works!
